Ajit Pawar's NCP suffers blow in stronghold as four leaders quit party – India Today

In a setback to the Ajit Pawar-led NCP, 4 leaders of the get together’s Pimpri-Chinchwad unit have resigned and are more likely to be a part of the Sharad Pawar faction quickly. The event comes following the NCP’s disastrous efficiency within the current Lok Sabha election and months forward of the Maharashtra Meeting polls.

NCP’s Pimpri-Chinchwad unit chief Ajit Gavahane, Pimpri-Chinchwad college students’ wing chief Yash Sane, and former corporators Rahul Bhosale and Pankaj Bhalekar have submitted their resignations to Ajit Pawar.

Sources stated Ajit Gavahane resigned after his efforts to get a ticket for the Bhosari Meeting seat failed. BJP MLA Mahesh Landge has been elected from Bhosari constituency for the final two phrases.

Pimpri-Chinchwad has been the NCP’s stronghold for many years.

Within the Lok Sabha polls, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) surprised the ruling Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra by successful 30 of the 48 seats. The Ajit Pawar-led NCP received only one seat, Raigad, whereas the Sharad Pawar faction bagged eight.

The resignations come amid a buzz that some leaders of the Ajit Pawar camp are keen to return to the Sharad Pawar camp. Earlier this month, Sharad Pawar claimed some MLAs from the breakaway NCP faction met his get together’s senior chief Jayant Patil.

There are additionally speculations that Maharashtra minister and senior NCP chief Chhagan Bhujbal could desert Ajit Pawar. Final month, a senior chief from the Shiv Sena (UBT), a part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi, met Bhujbal.

Sources stated Bhujbal was upset over Ajit Pawar nominating his spouse Sunetra to the Rajya Sabha after her defeat within the Baramati Lok Sabha election to Supriya Sule.

Bhujbal, an influential OBC chief, was vying for the Rajya Sabha seat and a subsequent Union Ministry put up.
